Committed to making art and cultural experiences accessible to everyone, Calgary-based Glenbow Museum has become a must-see destination for art enthusiasts and the “artcurious” alike. After 15 years working with an outdated website content management platform, Glenbow decided it was time for a change.
Strut was engaged to help Glenbow elevate its online presence and create deeper, more meaningful engagements with visitors beyond museum walls. The resulting website is home to a robust events calendar, visually rich exhibition content, and the ability to integrate with existing ticketing, membership and online donation platforms.
With the objective of making the museum feel as contemporary and welcoming online as it does in person, Strut made use of unique and sometimes surprising combinations of colour, shape, imagery and typography to spark curiosity and encourage in-person visitation. In particular, the website’s extensive colour palette served to both visually engage visitors and create a digital wayfinding system to improve the user experience.
Our goal was to improve the usability and accessibility of the website, ensuring website visitors could quickly and easily find information about exhibitions, events, visiting the museum and how to lend their support. The new website’s streamlined navigation structure and enhanced search functions make it simple for users to plan their visit and experience the stories of the artists, art and culture found within.
A custom built What’s On calendar was designed and built to provide users with a simplified method of sorting Glenbow’s many exhibitions, events, tours and activities by type, date range, age group and more. And with a wide range of pre-developed custom blocks available for use on each individual listing page, Glenbow can easily add photo galleries, images, quotes, video and numerous other combinations of text and visuals to build engaging digital experiences.
