The Yukon Arts Centre’s new web presence is bold yet simplified, designed to highlight events and exhibitions. This modernized website highlights the art while providing an intuitive user experience, making it easy for visitors to engage with the Centre’s vibrant offerings.
The brief
Yukon Arts Centre (YAC), a dynamic gallery and cultural hub in Whitehorse, showcases the region’s creativity through diverse exhibitions in music, performing arts, and visual arts. Deeply rooted in Yukon’s rich cultural heritage, YAC is committed to recognizing the contributions of Indigenous artists and the influence of First Nations communities in shaping the vibrant arts scene. YAC was looking for a website refresh that was both modern and user-friendly, effectively showcasing its vibrant identity. While their previous site offered extensive content, it lacked an intuitive design and didn’t reflect YAC’s identity. The goal was to create a bold, streamlined interface that emphasized YAC’s events and exhibitions while simplifying ticket purchasing for users.

Colour palette
Inspired by the Yukon’s breathtaking landscapes and the deep connection to the land by Indigenous peoples, Strut’s subtle yet impactful design and colour palette highlight YAC’s content while honouring the region’s cultural heritage.
Refreshed design
Strut developed a clean, refined design that lets the art take centre stage. To balance bold visuals with usability, Strut introduced intuitive navigation that ensures a seamless experience for discovering events and exhibitions, and purchasing tickets. The new design combines functionality with aesthetic warmth, celebrating YAC’s role as a vibrant, inclusive arts hub in the Yukon.
What’s on
A robust archive of all events and exhibitions. A faceted search feature lets users filter content to match their interests, making it easy to explore what’s happening at the Arts Centre. Events and exhibitions are shown in a grid layout, with key details prominently displayed for quick scanning and browsing.

Each page provides detailed information about the event or exhibition, structured in a clear, hierarchical format for easy scanning. It’s designed to give the client flexibility in displaying diverse content types—text, images, galleries, buttons, quotes, and more.
Art collection
Strut designed a mosaic-style gallery to showcase YAC’s collection of over 100 works by Indigenous and Northern artists. This special section on the website allows users to freely browse the entire collection, serving as a digital archive library. The gallery includes a faceted search feature, enabling users to explore by category or type, providing multiple ways to engage with and learn about the artwork.

The new site is both visually striking and highly functional, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and respect for the diverse communities it serves. With a user-friendly CMS, YAC’s team can now easily update content to keep the site fresh and current.
